Community & Social

Member Experience

What it does

The member app has a built-in social layer that turns solo workouts into a shared experience. Members add each other as friends, challenge friends to fitness competitions, and share a community feed of posts, achievements, and reactions inside interest groups. Staff oversee all of it — a Social console to monitor engagement and set the rules, and a moderation queue for reported content — so the community stays active and safe.

Key concepts

  • Friend code — every member has a short, shareable code (e.g. FIT-7Q2K). Friends are added by entering or scanning a code; there is no search by name, by design, for privacy.
  • Friend request — sent by code, or straight from a member's mini-profile. The other side accepts to become friends. Blocking someone hides you from each other completely and silently.
  • Challenge — a friendly competition on one metric — gym visits, classes attended, workouts, active minutes, calories, lifting volume, or program days — over a set number of days. Everyone's score is measured from what they actually do; the highest wins. Two people is a duel, three or more is a group.
  • Nudge — a one-tap "let's train 👊" push to a friend.
  • Community feed — posts from members and coaches. Each post can be reacted to (💪 🔥 👏), commented on, and shared into a group.
  • Group — an interest community (e.g. "Iron Lovers") a member joins to see and post its content.
  • Coach badge — coaches are marked so their posts and profile stand out from regular members.
  • Report — a member can flag a post or comment; it lands in a staff review queue (a requirement of the app stores for user-generated content).

Main tasks

Add a friend and start a challenge (member)

  1. Open Friends and share your code, or enter a friend's code — or open their profile and tap Add.
  2. Once you're friends, tap Challenge, pick a metric (e.g. gym visits) and a length (3, 7, or 14 days), and invite one or more friends.
  3. The challenge starts the moment the first friend accepts; every score updates automatically from real activity. Nudge a friend anytime to keep them going.

Post and interact in the community (member)

  1. Open the Community feed and write a post — optionally into a group you've joined — or share an achievement (a personal record, a completed program day, a streak, or a challenge win).
  2. React to others' posts (💪 🔥 👏), add comments, and open a member's mini-profile to see their streak, points, and badges.
  3. If something is inappropriate, use Report — staff will review it.

Monitor and control the community (staff)

  1. Go to Social to see engagement at a glance — how many members use it, total friendships, active challenges, and the most active members.
  2. Use the Challenges console to browse every challenge and, if needed, force one to finish.
  3. In Settings, switch the whole feature — or just friends, challenges, or nudges — on or off, choose which metrics members may compete on, and set the limits (maximum players, invite expiry, nudge cooldown).
  4. On any member's profile you can reset their friend code, remove a friendship, or mute their social access.

Moderate content (staff)

  1. Manage the feed under Community — publish posts, pin an announcement to the top, and mark a member as a coach.
  2. Open the Reports tab to review flagged posts and comments; dismiss a report or remove the content (which clears every report against it).

Tips

TIP

Discovery is by code only — there is no way to search members by name — which keeps the social layer private by design.

INFO

Blocking is silent: a blocked member simply can't find or reach you, and neither side is notified.

INFO

Challenge scores are never entered by hand — they're read from real activity (check-ins, classes, logged workouts), so they can't be gamed.

INFO

The whole social layer is opt-in per gym, and each part — friends, challenges, and nudges — can be turned off on its own.
